Anne Marie Spencer

Anne Marie Spencer, 83, of Tunkhannock, PA passed away peacefully and surrounded by her children on Friday July 25th, 2025, at the Hospice of the Sacred Heart Inpatient Unit, Dunmore, PA.

She was born on January 10th, 1942, in Franklin, NJ. The youngest daughter of Italian immigrants, the late Pasquale and Madeline (Nero) Gallo.

A graduate of Montclair State Teachers College, Anne went on to teach home economics in high school, later marrying Wesley Spencer in 1964, then took time off to be a homemaker and returned to subsequently teach again, work with special needs children and own two businesses. Her lifelong passion was to care for her family and care for the children in Tunkhannock, “as if they were her own.” She was always thinking about others needs over her own. She also loved gardening, cooking, and baking. Anyone who knew Anne would describe her as selfless, sweet, loving, and very kind.

She was an active member of St. Peter’s Episcopal Church for over 50 years.

She was preceded in death by her husband of 50 years, Wesley, a brother, Vincent Gallo.

Surviving are her sisters, Amelia (Molly) Longo of Linwood, NJ and Yolanda Walther (the late Harrison) of Ashburn VA, her Children, Susan (John) Pylypciw of Palmyra, PA, John (Debra) Spencer of Newville, PA and Kelly Spencer of Tunkhannock. Her grandchildren, Keith (Stephanie) of Hampton, VA, Emily, Nashville, TN and Allison of Ocean, NJ, her great grandchildren, Miles and Austin Spencer Hampton, VA and many other caring family members.

The family is grateful for the caring support of Chris, Kay and Beth Longo, Nancy Place, Colleen Williams, Joyce McCleary, over the past few years, and the Hospice of the Sacred Heart.

A funeral service will be held on Wednesday, July 30th at 11AM at St. Peter’s Episcopal Church 3832 US-6, Tunkhannock, PA. Interment will follow in Sunnyside Cemetery Tunkhannock, PA. Family and friends are invited to view from 10AM until the time of service.
