Antoinette “Grandma Nettie” Spangle passed away July 2, 2015 after a brief illness. She was 91 years old. She was one of two siblings born to Louis and Antoinette Devic in Pittsburgh on October 26, 1924. Antoinette left behind a legacy of music, art, and faith. She and her husband, William Spangle, built five homes from the ground up which they lived in over the years in Pittsburgh, Scranton, Montdale, Pottstown, and Florida. Antoinette carried her talents and love to the many places she lived. As a young woman in Pittsburg, she used her beautiful voice to perform in musical productions with several famous opera groups. Antoinette established the “All Decades” musical group which performed locally in Pittsburgh for many years at nursing homes and family gatherings. Throughout her life, she taught art and music lessons in her home. Her paintings and drawing were gifted to friends and family in every hometown. Watercolor greeting cards were given and shared with love by nearly all she knew. Antoinette’s deepest devotion was to her faith, cantoring and establishing folk groups to sing in every Catholic parish she’d called home. Most recently, Antoinette has lived and loved in our hometown. She was a cantor and lead member of a Folk Group at Nativity of the Blessed Virgin Mary in Tunkhannock and sang with the choir at St. Mary’s of the Lake, Lake Winola, PA. In her later years Antoinette became a Senior Aide in classrooms at Roslund Elementary. “Grandma Nettie” was known throughout the school for her drawing and crafts.
