Bethel “Betty” M. Statnick, age 93, of Centermoreland, passed away at the Meadows Nursing & Rehabilitation Center in Dallas on March 9th. Born in Centermoreland on January 13, 1933, she was the daughter of the late Ernest and Bethel Shook Montross.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Robert Statnick, who passed on March 7, 2026. Following her graduation from high school, Betty attended Moody Bible Institute in Chicago. After completing her studies, she worked in Jewish mission ministry in New Jersey.
Betty was a dedicated Christian serving her Lord as a devoted member of Northmoreland Baptist Church. She held positions as Sunday School and Vacation Bible School Director, and Financial Secretary for several years. Additionally, she was employed at the Centermoreland General Store and provided childcare services. Betty enjoyed playing the piano, accordion, and singing in the church choir. She was also active in the Child Evangelism Fellowship.
In addition to her parents and husband, she was predeceased by her daughter Sharon Geritz, sister Ola Mae Schoonover, and brother Ted Montross.
She is survived by her daughter, Donna Shaffer and husband John of Tunkhannock; her son, Robert Alan Statnick of Centermoreland; her sisters-in-law, Betty Ann Howell of Centermoreland and Carol Montross of Centermoreland; her grandchildren, Anwyn Statnick (David), Kristina Shaffer (David), Amy Shaffer (Jason), Jessica Fetzko (David), and Jake Shaffer (Mikaela); and her great-grandchildren, Aiden, Ollie Mae, and Jade Dunn, Roselie, Elaina, and June Shaffer.
Funeral services for both Bob and Betty Statnick will be held on Monday, March 16, at 2:00 p.m. at the Harding-Litwin Funeral Home, 123 W. Tioga Street, Tunkhannock, Pennsylvania. Military honors for Robert Statnick will take place at 1:45 p.m. Visitation is scheduled from 1:00 p.m. until the time of service. Interment will follow at Perrins Marsh Cemetery in Centermoreland.
