Evey Sands, 94, passed away at Allied

Services Hospice Center late Saturday afternoon,

Aug 31st surrounded by family. She was born on

April 5, 1925 in Plymouth, Pennsylvania. A neighbor

in Plymouth, Mary Jones Williams, would take

her every summer up to “the Jones’ farm” in Sugar

Hollow. Evey grew fond of the country and after

school she moved to Tunkhannock permanently

where she met her husband, Marvin Sands. In 1947

they married and began a life long partnership as

entrepreneurs. They built the Starlite Drive-in

Theater, the first drive-in in Northeast Pennsylvania

and took over running the Dietrich Theater and

ran many other small theaters, including the Wysox

Drive-in. They built homes throughout the area

and in 1968 started the Marv-El View Terrace

development located behind Tyler Hospital. In

1979, they moved to Florida and worked at Epcot

Center and Disney World then returned to

Pennsylvania in 1995 to build their retirement

home in the development.

Evey made friends wherever she went. She

won blue ribbons at the County Fair for her flowers

and was diligent in making jams every year.

She is survived by her son, Gary Sands,

retired from Milnes Engineering, and Kim

Whipple, owner of the Whipple Performing Arts

Studio. She has 8 grandchildren and 21 great

grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her husband

Marvin in 2005. They were married for 58 years.

The viewing will be held at the Harding-Litwin

Funeral Home, 123 W. Tioga St., Tunkhannock

from Noon to 1:00pm on Friday, September 6th.

Pastor Scott Ryan will perform the service immediately

following and internment will be at Sunnyside

Friends and family are then invited to the
