Glenn “Ace” Shupp, 94, of Tunkhannock, passed away on June 9, 2026, after an extended illness. His story began on October 1, 1931, in Whites Ferry, Falls Township, Pennsylvania, where he was born to Blanche Elizabeth (Allshouse) and Josiah Jacob (JJ) Shupp. He graduated from Tunkhannock High School in 1949 and soon started a local trucking business, picking up eggs and milk from area farmers. Ace then proudly joined the United States Army and was deployed to Korea, where he served in the Motor Pool and Heavy Weapons Division.
Following his honorable discharge in 1954, he married Marlyn Ruth (Tarbox), started a family, and returned to his trucking roots. After briefly trying his hand at selling insurance—and deciding he didn't care for office life—he co-founded a construction company with his brother Nile (Bertie) Shupp in 1972.
Though a construction accident in 1987 left him unable to continue working the trade, Ace transitioned his incredible energy into a lifetime of community service. He served the people of Tunkhannock in numerous capacities, including as a 30-year member of the Wyoming County Planning Board and as a Tunkhannock Township Supervisor for 23 years, having first been elected in January 2001.
Following the 1996 flood of the Lazy Brook housing development, Ace worked tirelessly alongside FEMA and PEMA representatives to secure federal buyout funding. This monumental effort successfully birthed what is now known as Lazy Brook Park. He was always deeply proud of how the park evolved into a beautiful community gathering space.
As a 27-year member of Kiwanis International, Ace also spearheaded the efforts to acquire and develop the property for the Wyoming County Fairgrounds, working directly with local farmers and businesses to secure the donations of buildings and materials that made the fairgrounds viable. Additionally, he was a lifelong member of the Wyoming County Historical Society, sharing his passion for Indian artifacts and arrowheads through presentations to local clubs and groups.
Ace loved traveling out West with family and friends to visit historical landmarks and national monuments. He held a special fondness for the Crazy Horse Memorial in South Dakota, visiting it numerous times and donating many artifacts from his personal collection to its museum display.
Ace was also a devoted member and trustee of the Osterhout Bible Church.
Of all his life's milestones, one of Ace's absolute greatest source of pride was his three children, who all followed his footsteps into public service as members of the military: Deborah in the Air Force, Mark in the Army, and Greg in the Navy.
In addition to his parents, Ace was predeceased by his brothers Frederick and Nile (Bertie), his sister Mary, his beloved first wife of 54 years, Marlyn, and his second wife, Vivienne.
He is survived by his daughter, Deborah, and her husband, Rick Turner, of Colorado Springs, CO; his son, Mark, and his wife, Susan (Wells), of Dalton, PA; and his son, Greg, and his wife, Deborah, of Alfred, ME. He also leaves behind five grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.
The family would like to express their deepest gratitude to the staff of The Embassy of Tunkhannock who provided compassionate care and so much love to Ace over the past nine months.
A visitation will be held at the Osterhout Bible Church, 467 Lane Hill Road, Tunkhannock, PA, on Saturday, June 13, from 12:00 PM to 3:00 PM. A funeral service will immediately follow at 3:00 PM. Interment will take place at a later date at the convenience of the family.
In strict accordance with Ace’s wishes, the family requests no flowers or plants. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the Osterhout Bible Church (204 SR 29 N, Tunkhannock, PA 18657) or to a charity of your choice.
