We are sad to announce the unexpected passing of Homer Michael DeBoer on Thursday, Aug. 18, 2022.
He was 33 and was known to many as someone always out to make others laugh. He often followed the question “how are you” with the answer “just peachy.” His laugh, his jokes and his funny impersonations are only a few of his qualities that will be dearly missed by his family and friends. Homer had an old soul and to know him was to know a one-of-a-kind person. His favorite way to pass time was spending time with his friends and his nieces and nephews, and his grandfather and grandmother.
Homer was predeceased by his mother, Mary Swartz, and his grandfather, Sidney DeBoer; great-grandparents: Homer and Alice DeBoer, and Michael and Lucy Bufardeci.
He is survived by his grandmother, Grace DeBoer; father, Douglas DeBoer Sr. and spouse Debbie Boner-Gensel; siblings: April DeBoer, Heather DeBoer and spouse Mickey Aten, Douglas DeBoer Jr., Gracie DeBoer and partner Michael Huizinga, Fawn DeBoer and spouse Dustin Ayres, Keira Marcello and spouse Thomas Marcello, Cody DeBoer and partner Rachel Donofrio, Adrienne DeBoer and partner Michael Schultheis, David DeBoer; many nieces, nephews, aunts, uncles, cousins and distant cousins in the Netherlands.
There will be a celebration of Homer’s life on Saturday, Aug. 27, at 1 p.m. It will take place Pilgrim Holiness Church, 102 West St., Tunkhannock.
