John Charles Fronczkiewicz

John Charles Fronczkiewicz, born March 9, 1938, in Kingston, PA, to the late John C. Fronczkiewicz, Sr. and the late Regina Fronczkiewicz (Pecukonis,) passed away at the age of 85 on Monday, June 5, 2023, in Wilkes-Barre, PA.

As a child, John was an avid athlete, prankster, and all around handsome devil. He was the eldest of four children and the happy-go-lucky nephew and cousin to his extended family. He was a star football player and the kind of student he would later be challenged by when he became a teacher himself.

After graduating from Luzerne High School, he enlisted in the U.S. Army and was stationed in Alaska from 1957-1960, when he was released early to pursue a football scholarship at King’s College. He would later transfer to Mansfield State College where he would graduate with a teaching degree.

John was a retired teacher of the Tunkhannock Area Middle School, where he taught Social Studies and Geography, as well as the Hunter Safety course. Mr. Fronczkiewicz did not deny his formidable physical stature as a force for discipline enforcement, but many of his students were also well aware of his kind heart and soft nature.

John had a passion for artistic endeavors such as painting, and woodworking. His specialty was miniature watercolors. He built his family’s home from the ground up during weekends and summers when he wasn’t working at his second job as a ticket seller at Pocono Downs Racetrack.

John was a devoted husband to his late wife, Maggie, for 57 years. He was the proud father of Susan Fronczkiewicz, Carol Anderson, Janice Baker, and Amy Fronczkiewicz, the adoring grandfather of Kristy (Anderson) Carey, Steven and Megan Anderson, and JT and Eva Perez, and a great-grandfather to Lauren Carey. John is preceded in death by his twin brothers, Peter Fronczkiewicz and Charles Fronczkiewicz, and is also survived by his sister Bernadine Brown, as well as sisters-in-law, many nieces, nephews, cousins and countless friends.

Friends and family may pay their respects at the celebration of his life on August 5, 2023. Further details will be provided at a later date.
