Susan C. Lydon

Susan Whitford Lydon, known to many as “Susie,” 76, of Fleetville, PA, passed away on January 13, 2026, at Elan Skilled Nursing in Scranton, PA, after a long illness. She was born on October 21, 1949, in Scranton, PA.

Susan spent most of her life in Fleetville, PA. She graduated from Abington Heights High School in Clarks Summit, PA, and later completed business training with IBM, developing skills in bookkeeping and office systems that she used throughout her working life. She worked at a local meatpacking facility in the Scranton area, later served as a teacher’s aide at Benton Elementary School, and then worked with her family at Jim’s Auto Center and Nichols Bus, where she kept the books and drove school bus.

Susan later married James Lydon, and together they owned and operated a trucking business, where she handled bookkeeping and day-to-day operations.

During the 1970s and 1980s, Susan was involved with several community organizations. She volunteered with the Fleetville Volunteer Fire Company, Girl Scout Troop 422, Benton Little League, the PTO during her children’s grade school years, and served as treasurer for Fleetville United Methodist Church.

She enjoyed Scrabble and was known for being difficult to beat. She shared a close bond with the family’s toy poodle, Chopper, who was almost always at her side.

Susan is survived by her children, Ginger Nichols (Dan Moore) of Denver, CO, and Robyn Nichols (James R. Nichols) of Fleetville, PA; her grandchildren, Seamus Nichols and Kiara Nichols; and extended family.

She was preceded in death by her parents, William and Naomi (Tripp) Whitford; her brother, William Whitford; her sister, Nancy Whitford Manning; her husband, James Lydon; and her former husband, James Nichols.

In keeping with Susan’s wishes, no services will be held.
