William Eugene Griffin

William Eugene Griffin, Jr, 81, of Tunkhannock passed away in the early hours of May 8, 2025, at Geisinger Wyoming Valley Medical Center, after suffering from complications of a stroke.

Bill was born in New Brunswick, NJ, October 09, 1943, to the late William and Josephine Kane Griffin. He graduated from St. Agnes High School in Towanda in 1961.  He received a Bachelor of Science in Biology from King’s College in Wilkes-Barre in 1970. Bill was a Vietnam War Army Veteran (1966-1972), proudly serving as a Dental Lab Specialist. Bill went to work for the FDA in Harrisburg until his retirement in 1996. After his retirement, he moved to Tunkhannock to be closer to his parents and late brother, Tim Griffin and his family.

Bill will be forever remembered by others for “making his rounds.” To those that don’t know, rounds entailed trips to different establishments to grab a bite to eat and meet up with others. He loved his trips to Perkins to see “his girls,” D&C for coffee, and an 11:00 stop at the Creekside to see his “Lunch Bunch” crew. He also enjoyed playing pool with his friend, Bob Brown. He will always be remembered by his family and friends for his strong political views and having no shame in theatrically expressing it. He was one of the “good ones” and will be missed beyond measure by many for his genuine heart of gold.

Bill is preceded in death by his parents, William & Josephine Kane Griffin, brothers, Dr. Michael Griffin & Timothy Griffin and sister Colette Griffin Romano. He leaves behind a sister, Joellen Kule & husband Dave, sisters-in-law, Laura Griffin & Patricia Griffin, and brother-in-law, Anthony Romano, amongst numerous nieces and nephews, as well as great nieces and nephews, whom he all loved dearly.
The family would like to thank the doctors & nurses at Geisinger Wyoming Valley, Allied Skilled Nursing, Scranton, and Tunkhannock Rehabilitation and Health Care Center for the compassionate care that William received with his recent illness. A special thank you to his niece, Kristin Griffin/McKennas, for her unwavering support, love, and care she gave to him over the past several years of his life.
