William H. Seamans

William H. Seamans, of Factoryville, died 12 days shy of his 100th birthday. He was born in Factoryville, son of the late Harry and Vera Taylor Seamans. He and his wife, Clementina “Tina”, celebrated their 56th anniversary, October 3, 2014. He graduated from Manlius Military Academy in New York, Keystone College, and William and Mary College in Virginia, where he was an outstanding athlete, participating in basketball and football. He is a member of the Keystone Hall of Fame and the Northeast PA Hall of Fame. He was a veteran of WWII serving as a captain in the Army Corps in China, Burma, and India. Many awards presented to him were two Air Medals, The China Medal, Asiatic-Pacific Medal, the distinguished Flying Cross and Meritorious Unit Award. He continued flying after the war and flew for over 25 years for Flying Tiger Lines. He was also a flight instructor for over 50 years at Seamans Airport in Factoryville, retiring at age 90. During his career, he logged over 42,000 hours of flying time. He was a member of OX5 Club of America, Aviation Pioneers, American Overseas Pilot Association, and flew 112 missions to Vietnam. He was a member of Factoryville Lodge 341, F & AM for 67 years, Factoryville American Legion Post 375. Bill enjoyed flying, writing to his friends and family, taking care of his property, spending time with his friends, family and students. He was greatly respected and admired for his strong, bold outlook on life. Surviving, besides his wife Tina, is his daughter Susan and her fiancé, Robert Jenkins, and many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his sister, Lucille Smith; brothers Robert, Richard, and Warren “Sam” Seamans. Services will be Wednesday at 11am from the Anthony P. Litwin Jr. Funeral Home, 33 Reynolds St., Factoryville with the Reverend Paul Fields and Jack Munley officiating. Friends may call at the funeral home on Tuesday from 4-7 pm. Interment at Nicholson Cemetery. Memorial contributions may be made to Keystone College, One College Green, PO Box 50, La Plume, PA. 18440.
